All My Cousins
Chapter 9The Second David G. Campbell
David the younger joined the family in 1937 on September 5th. He was an Auburn native for the early years of his life, graduating form East High School in 1955. Following in his father's footsteps, he entered Dartmouth College in the Tuck-Thayer program, graduating in 1960. He went on to the Navy Officers Candidate School and subsequently served on a destroyer from 1961 through 1964. The ship was home-ported Boston and David met a young Irish-trained nurse named Yvonne Walsh from Ballinrobe, Ireland.
Leaving the navy in 1964, Yvonne and David married and moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where his first job was quartered. During some five years in Marshalltown, David the third and Tara were born, David in 1965 and Tara a year later in 1966. Unfortunately each lost a parent in 1966 when Yvonne's mother passed away and David's father died.
In 1969, the family moved to New Jersey briefly and then to Glen Ellyn, Illinois where they lived for a number of years. While there, Michael Walsh Campbell came aboard in December of 1972. The time in Glen Ellyn is remembered by all the family for the friends they made and the times that they had. For summer, they had a cottage on Lake Michigan at Glen, Michigan.
In the latter days of 1979, David was given, or saw, an opportunity to leave the employment of Henry Pratt Co. and purchase a similar type business in Portland, Oregon. So the family left the Chicago area for Oregon where David purchased Beaver Equipment Specialty Co. During the two years that the family lived in Oregon, they brought Catherine Tidd from Tryon, North Carolina to stay with them as she was in declining years, having suffered a minor stroke and could not easily live alone.
Two years later, the business and the family moved north to Seattle, Washington. Here David the youngest and Tara graduated from high school and went on to college. Yvonne, using her years of experience as a nurse, started a company that provided nurse care management. That business was very successful and was eventually sold.
In September of 2002, David decided that it was time to do other things in life and retired. Having abandoned the eastern United State from which he came, David and Yvonne sold their home in Bellevue and came east to Williamsburg, Virginia where they now reside.
